Marijuana that is grown out doors, just like any other agricultural crop is dependent on Mother Nature to cooperate with the effort. This year, a drought in Northern Mexico has gotten bad enough that it is now affecting the crops, including those that are illicit. Military officials, who wage much of the war against drug cartels and their products, say that the surveillance flights this year have shown large dry patches in land that is usually lush with illegal marijuana and poppy fields. Polish Lawmaker Threatens to Smoke Marijuana in Parliament

In Poland, the leader of a new left-wing party threatened to light up a joint in Parliament in Warsaw on Friday. Janusz Palikot is trying to get soft drugs, like cannabis, legalized among other liberal ideas in his rather conservative country. A Canadian group of professionals has formed a coalition that calls on the legalization and the regulated sales of marijuana in Canada. Australia Moves Toward Harsher Punishments for Marijuana Crimes

The State Government in Western Australia announced on Sunday that they are putting into place more repressive marijuana laws that will go into effect on August 1st. Western Australia had effectively decriminalized the possession of up to 30 grams of marijuana under the previous Labor Government that set the fines for violators with tickets between $100 and $200 dollars. But with the new Liberal-National party in power, Police Minister Rob Johnson said that those relaxed, soft-drug laws will be repealed and replaced with a much tougher approach. He told reporters yesterday that citizens caught with cannabis will no longer simply get a slap on the wrist for the crime.
