Medical Cannabis reform is laid to rest for 2011 in Washington state. The latest effort from Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles has died in the Washington State Legislature. Kohl-Wells told reporters that it represents the greatest disappointment of her legislative career. She saw the bill she worked hundreds of hours on pass the senate, only to be mostly vetoed by Gov. Chris Gregoire, who justified rejecting the new legislation because she didn’t want to put state workers at risk of federal prosecution if they passed medical cannabis regulations.
In 2002, the Coalition for Rescheduling Cannabis submitted a petition to request that marijuana be reclassified, but they have never received an answer. Today, they filed a lawsuit in the Washington DC Circuit Court asking for President Obama’s administration to respond to the petition. In Florida, Osceola County Investigative Bureau agents responded to a residence in St. Cloud and after obtaining permission from the homeowner, searched the property and discovered 17 cannabis plants, some of which were 7 feet tall.
