Willie Nelson, who was arrested for marijuana possession in November, took a plea deal yesterday to avoid jail time. His tour bus was stopped at a checkpoint when officers found a few ounces of marijuana, although there have been different amounts reported from the time of his arrest up to the time it came before the judge, who is known to be a fan. Nelson pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, so the amount of marijuana was not an issue in sentencing.
Prosecutors in the case agreed to the reduced charges for the 78 year old entertainer and he was fined $500 and an additional $280 in court costs. If Willie nelson can stay out of trouble for the next 30 days, the case will be dismissed entirely.
The County Prosecutor, CR Bramblett, also a reported fan, said that now all Nelson must do is sign the paper, and send in a check for the money. Brablett was the source of previous reports that Willie would be let off the hook if he came to court and serenaded the judge. He said he was only joking. It looks like Nelson didn’t have to do anything to be let off the hook.

GOOD for willie let’s get this stuff legal !!!
God Bless you willie Nelson
The government need’s to leave the stoker’s alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’d like to hear him comment on this. An act of solidarity for all of the tokers already in Texas jails would have been a more powerful statement. No one else gets off like this.
I feel the same way Dude. But on that note, I think Willie has done so much already for the movement. It is why he is often an easy target. I would like to see other celebrities stand up though…even if it is just a check. Where is legalizer Bill Mahar’s check to NORML? How come Michael Phelps didn’t say “yes, I smoked marijuana and I feel that it should be legalized. It is healthier then alcohol and helps me wind down after a workout”. We KNOW so many celebrities toke up, I would like to see a few more than just Willlie and Snoop Dog make a statement.
I agree with the above statements: one, no one else would get a 30 day probabation for having that much weed and with his past offenses. We would be locked up and charge with the intent to distribute. Second, I also agree that Wille has done so much for the movement and I’m glad that he got off. My question is can this be used as case presendce again future arrest for marijuana charges?
