A Korean-American hip-hop artist who was born in South Korea but maintains a home in Atlanta, Georgia was sentenced by the Seoul Central District Court on Thursday for the charge of using marijuana while he was in the US. Crown J, whose real name is Kim Kye Hoon, currently spends most of his time in the US working on his music career. That will be put on hold as he will spend eight long months in a Korean prison, spend an additional two months on probation and will have to pay heavy fines along with doing 80 hours of community service after his release. It is unknown if he will be allowed to travel back to the US while he is serving out his probation.
The 31 year-old rapper got his celebrity break when he was cast in the Korean reality TV show, “We Got Married” in 2006. Since then, he has been busy on his career putting out three albums, “One & Only”, “Miss Me” and “Fly Boy”. He was charged with the crime last December as he visited his homeland. South Korean police said that Crown J smoked marijuana in his home in Atlanta sometime between May of 2009 and October of 2010. The Seoul Police Narcotics Investigation team charged him for possession of marijuana saying he was getting the substance from an international source, and said that it is a common practice of his to smoke marijuana regularly.The court handed down the sentence with the statement,
“As a celebrity, he has the attention of the public. Because of this reason, he must take special responsibility for his conduct. By using drugs, he will influence young people negatively and set a bad example. He disappointed the public, and also made needless misunderstandings for the court, all of which deserves strict punishment.”
He told the court that he did no other drugs aside from marijuana, and that he did that to fit in with the people he needed to approach for his music career. Crown J has been working on a new album in the United States that features “Whatever You Like” singer, T.I.

What kind of Bullshit is the court system of Korea on? Are they for real? He has to serve time in Korea for smoking weed in America? They say it’s a democracy, and while the president is out and about doing all sorts of shady shenanigans and taking bribes, he will use the police to brutally attack pregnant women, college protesters, etc… at a peace rally with batons and shields. Being a pot user myself i do not see why that rapper needs to be imprisoned for a crime he committed overseas.
