CBS Radio Corespondent Gets a Break

Washington D.C. – Howard Arenstein, a well-known CBS Radio News correspondent and his wife, Israeli newspaper journalist Orly Katz were arrested back on October 1st for growing marijuana in their backyard.

An anonymous tip led police to their house where along with 11 mature plants in the backyard, they found some bagged and ready to distribute, according to the police report, implying that the Arenstiens were dealing the marijuana. Arenstein and Katz were each been charged with one count of unlawful possession with the intent to distribute. Sources close to the case say that the stash was most likely being used for medicinal purposes and not sold to anyone.

DC Magistrate Judge Kimberley Knowles dismissed the drug possession charge against the couple last week without prejudice. It seems as if it was just a lucky break for the couple, as the prosecuting attorney told the judge that a government witness who was scheduled to testify in the case, was not present. The Attorneys for Arenstein and Katz then asked for the judge to move to dismiss the case. The judge agreed, but told the defendants that prosecutors could still call the case in the future. The government may re-file the charges against the couple, ages 60 and 57, but for now they are free.

Washington DC is one of the newest areas in the country to okay medical marijuana laws, but even with the new law, medical marijuana patients in the DC area will not be allowed to grow their own medical marijuana.

The judge or somebody don’t want to push those people around because of their power with tv & radio. somebody must have gotten some good pictures. Or maybe something happen to the witness. You know accidents happen?
