Atlanta, GA – In Atlanta, a deadly standoff ended in a man’s suicide inside his home. Details are still emerging in the case, but we know that the Atlanta police said the standoff began around 4pm on Monday. What began as a traffic stop near the mans home led to him barricading himself inside. They say they had the man in custody outside of this residence and initially had him in handcuffs. They say he was allowed to get his ID from inside the home. That is when police say that he quickly took possession of a handgun he had behind his back and pointed it in the officers direction.

Police say they immediately took cover and allowed the man to slam the front door to his home, which led to the standoff. A Swat team was called to the scene and they surrounded the home. Officials said shortly after, they heard a single shot. Then the swat team entered the residence. Once inside the home, police found bolt cutters that the man used to free himself of the handcuffs before he shot and killed himself. Police say they also found what they are calling an “extensive marijuana grow operation” inside the man’s home. No other details of the size of the marijuana garden have been released.  The Atlanta Police Department Narcotics team was called to the scene and the investigation continues.

  1. So sad, to think this man felt the need to take his life instead of getting it destroyed over a drug arrest, over a plant, its just wrong. To have that much fear says something, it says this failed policy of a Drug War isnt working and it causes more harm than any drug would. I bet the founding fathers wouldnt have ever imagined they would had to write into the constitution “the people my grow sell and consumer cannabis freely and this right shall never be taken from American citizens”. It was such a huge part of life back then I bet they just couldnt think it would ever be an issue, boy were they wrong. We need to stop this mess, the divide between police and citizens is just getting worse, soon we will have outright war on citizens where everyone is search and pulled over for random searches, wait they do that now, gee have we past the point of no return, I hope not, I really hope not! I hope these police that kill or cause the death of non violent drug consumers get a good nights sleep, I know I couldnt knowing how badly I destroyed someones life over a plant, gee wouldnt it be nice to have the police work with reform efforts to come to the end of this mess, but no they want to fight us and keep things the same, typical BS!

  2. So sad! How much did the APD spend on this huge bust. Since they don’t tell us how many plants I can only assume “extensive” is about 9 plants. Besides, I don’t care how many plants a person has it shouldn’t be illegal.

  3. Wow…. fear is instilled, choices have to be made. These officers are only doing their job, when will people stop blaming the police and start blaming the legislature that can change these ridiculous laws. So keep electing the same people and expecting something to change, while they live under a separate set of rules and standards. Get involved make a difference. Don’t talk about it be about it…..

  4. Yes, the cops are only doing there job, but they certainly are not helping the situation. By filling Atlanta jails, as well as jails all over the country, with senseless minor marijuana charges. Its one thing to bust a guy bringing in pounds of marijuana, its another thing to bust some kid smoking in his car with dime bag.
