Award-winning CBS radio news reporter and Radio Bureau Manager, Howard Arenstein was arrested for growing marijuana with intent to distribute. Arenstein, along with his wife were arrested in DC on Saturday. Arenstein and his wie Orly Azoulay, who is a newspaper reporter, were living with 8 foot tall cannabis plants in the backyard of their posh Georgetown neighborhood. According to the New York Daily News, Washington DC officers found the plants after receiving a complaint about the couple growing marijuana in their fenced in, back yard. Going on the complaint, the police obtained a search warrant, then raided Arenstein’s home where they found 11 very tall plants outside and some packaged marijuana along with paraphernalia inside the home. Various news reports are saying that six, two ounce bags of cannabis were found inside the Arenstien’s home.
Arenstein served as radio bureau manager for CBS News, Washington and has won awards for journalism for CBS Radio and has been honored with the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award twice for his work. He has supervised coverage and reported on major Washington stories like the disputed 2000 presidential election, September 11th hijackings, the wars in the middle east and the DC area sniper shootings. He oversaw the entire impeachment process of President Bill Clinton. He is the Executive producer of the CBS News Weekend Roundup, airing nationally on hundreds of CBS News affiliated stations. His wife is a correspondent for one of the largest newspapers in Israel. Arenstein, 60 and his wife is 57 have four children. Neither CBS nor Arenstein have given any comments about the incident.
