Reggae icon Bob Marley’s image is a regular feature in head shops, festivals and all things celebrating cannabis. The late musician was an outspoken advocate of marijuana legalization and the Rastafarian movement which advocates the spiritual use of cannabis. His daughter, Makeda Marley, 29, has pleaded guilty on a two year old case involving the manufacturing of marijuana. Last Tuesday, Makeda pleaded guilty to possession of 11 mature and three juvenile marijuana plants and tampering with evidence. According to the criminal complaint, police entered her residence on Sept 8th of 2008 after a DUI arrest. She let the police search her basement and went to get a key for them, but was then seen trying to remove a marijuana plant from the premises. Makeda said if not for family ties, she would have moved somewhere more accepting of cannabis use than Chester County Pennsylvania, but her mother and the father of her five year old son live in the area. She will be sentenced on October 25th, where her lawyers will present a number of people who personally know her to testify as character witnesses. It is assumed that the prosecutor in the case will argue for jail time. Makeda’s lawyer describes her as a devoted mother, and accomplished artist in ceramics and says she is working towards opening a bed and breakfast.
