A Rootstown, Ohio man took his own life on Tuesday after he and his wife were charged with child endangerment in connection with growing marijuana in his home. Robert and Pamela Batsch were arrested on Monday on warrants for child endangerment for allowing a juvenile to live in the home where marijuana was being grown. The couple has owned the well-kept hundred year old home since 1991. Their son told school officials about the marijuana growing in their home, and that led to an investigation. According to the police, once Mr. Batsch learned that his son had told school officials about his plants, he got rid of everything.

Sheriff David Doak of the Portage County Sheriffs department said, “When we got there, there was no marijuana present.”  The Batschs were released after posting 10% of a $5,000 bond, and were scheduled for preliminary hearings on Friday.

Pamela Batsch found her husband’s body with a 22-calibre rifle nearby in the woods behind their home Tuesday afternoon. A spokesman for the County Coroner in Portage where Rootstown, Ohio is located said that the death of Robert Batsch would be declared a suicide.
